Mont-Blanc Massif, Haute-Savoie, France
 Description
Culminating at 4808m altitude this is the highest mountain in Occidental Europe. It is often considered as the highest mountain of Europe but with its 5642m of altitude it is mount Elbrus in the Caucasus main mountain range which holds that title. The first ascent of Mont Blanc was made in 1976 by J.Balmat and M.G.Paccard. In 2005, more then 25000 people are estimated to have attempted its ascent, which is starting to cause ecological problems as unfortunately some of the mountaineer come down from the mountain leaving behind them significant amount of waste. This picture was taken at night from the Chéserys Lake while Chamonix’s street lights were illuminating the layer of mist which had settled down in the valley. This photograph was awarded 1st price in the landscape category at the 2008 edition of the International Mountain and Nature Photography Festival of Pralognan la Vanoise.
