Culminating at 3824m of altitude, the Aiguille du Chardonnet is located in the Mont-Blanc massif. The most famous route up to the summit is the Forbes arete (on the left of the pick on this picture). It's become an alpine classic and is graded French alpine 'AD'. The east end of the arete is reached by steep snow and ice on the north face. The exposed arete is then climbed to the summit and descent made by the west ridge. This picture was taken one evening from the Albert 1er hut as the sun was setting.
