Located in the heart of the Bernese Oberland region, this 4158m summit is the highest of the massif. With its two neighbours the Eiger (3970m) and the Mönch (4107m), this famous trilogy exhibits an impressive rock fortress composed of three north faces dominating the beautiful valley of Grindelwald. The Jungfrau is also famous for its 9km long railway which links the stations of Klein Scheidegg (2061m) to the Jungfraujoch pass, located between the summits of the Mönch and the Jungfrau at an altitude of 3454m. It offers the possibility for tourists to project themselves into an impressive world of snowy picks and glaciers, otherwise reserved to only the most arduous mountaineers. This photograph, taken at the end of winter from the Kleine Scheidegg station, shows the Jungfrau’s north face and the Silberhorn pyramid on the right hand side, with the full moon in the background.
